What Are The Implications Of The Sanctions Against Iran On The People Of Iranian Descent Living In The US?
The US has quite a substantial number of people of Iranian descent living there. There are a variety of reasons why they come here to the US. Life for these Iranian-Americans has turned sour following sanctions against Iran. The story behind these sanctions is not complex, Iran has just refused to adhere to pleas by the international community to cease from participating in a number of vices that are completely unacceptable and this has resulted in this precarious situation. The vices include and are not limited to harboring terror groups and also manufacturing nuclear weapons. These vices have upset the international community and bodies like the EU, UN and the US government have sanctioned Iran. The sanctions started being issued since the 1970’s but the seriousness of these sanctions has just recently taken.
The effects of these sanctions are being felt in Iran and it has started to seriously affect Iran’s economy. The effects are also being felt by the people of Iranian descent living elsewhere in the world and more so those that are living in the US. One of the major problems being unemployment. So what exactly are the effects of these sanctions against Iran on the people of Iranian descent living in the US?
The Iran sanctions have not only affected those who were employed in the US but even those who have their own businesses. The business community has had to suffer the consequences of the ban on imports and exports. Some of these businessmen had established a market that they can’t reach because of the sanction. Having specifically targeted the imports and exports industry, there is no other way around it. Apart from business being paralyzed as a result of the ban on exports and imports, no one wants to buy from these Iranian-American businessmen because they are afraid of going against the sanction and getting into trouble.
Because even the sending and receiving of gifts has been prohibited, people have had to cut ties with their relatives in Iran. Those that sent funds as support for their elderly parents cannot do that anymore. If you decide that you have to still send money, you would have to carry money in suitcases because banks would not do transfers. Just to avoid trouble and any of the penalties, no bank can take that risk to help them.
Because of the sanction, getting access to property or inheritance in Iran is impossible. It would have been better if you could hire a lawyer to help with your business in Iran but this is also prohibited.
